You must have an AGEIA PhysX Card. GeForce cards with PhysX capabilities are not detected at the moment. I cannot tell for sure whether it's on nVidia's or the CM developer's side to provide a fix, but it is possible that after a nVidia PhysX driver update, all owners of a newer GeForce card have access to the AGEIA lab.

Thanks, but, how do you find out your graphics card?

In the Windows Start menu, click Run..., then enter devmgmt.msc - you will see your video adapters there.
Note that, as far as I know, AGEIA PhysX cards are alwys supplementary cards which cannot be used as the primary video adapter. So I think you would know if you had an AGEIA card, as such a card must be bought and installed by yourself.

does an nvidia GeForce 8600 have physx support?

Yes, it has, at least it will have when the drivers are fully ready. But the game will not yet detect it as a card which is "allowed" to access the PhysX lab (I have not tested this, but it was reported on the Steam forum). As I wrote above, we will have to wait for either a game or a PhysX driver update.

why do you need the card anyway?

why do you need the card anyway? The bonus lab makes use of a few special effects that are only possible with PhysX and thus, the experiments would not work with a non-compatible graphics card. At least this is the offical explanation and everything I know about this issue.
